Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominee Millicent Cummings will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the East Hawaii Cultural Center/Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art, located at 141 Kalakaua St. in Hilo.
Cummings is an award-winning singer, songwriter and performer, having composed more than 400 songs, and also a recording artist, having released five CD’s on her own music label.
Her previous release of original music was nominated for a Na Hoku Hanohano Award and honored by being named Best Song. She also claimed the Na Poe Award at the Mokihana Festival Composer’s Contest. Cummings has shown her visual work in group and one-woman exhibitions across the country, and was curator and proprietor of her own gallery on Kauai called Gallery M.
She has been involved as an actress in productions such as the internationally acclaimed “Vagina Monologues,” improv comedy troops and videos, as well as hosting her own radio program called “Kauai Live” on KKCR, along with numerous television programs for Hoike and Olelo Community Television.
She also has produced children’s books, compilations of poetry and performed at festivals such as The Wahine Fest and the Hanapepe Folk Festival, now in its eighth year.
